Tarif’s Story

Once, I lived in a beautiful place called Syria. My home was in a city with many buildings and markets. I had friends and a school. My father worked in a shop, and my mother cooked delicious food. We were happy.

But one day, everything changed. Loud noises, like thunder, started coming from outside. People were running and shouting. My parents looked worried. They said it was not safe anymore. I didn't understand, but I felt scared.

We had to leave our home. We took only a few things. I remember holding my little sister's hand tightly. We walked a lot. My feet hurt, and I missed my bed. At night, we slept in places that were not our home. I missed my friends and my toys.

We reached a place with big tents. Many people were there, all looking tired and sad. This place was called a refugee camp. We stayed there for many days. I didn't go to school. I helped my mother and played with my sister.

Then one day, my father said we were going to a new country. We traveled in a big boat with many other people. The water was so big; it made me feel small. I wondered about my new home. Will I make friends? Will it be safe?

Now, we are in a new place. It's different from Syria. The language is not the same, and the food tastes different. I go to a new school. Sometimes, I feel alone because I miss my old home. But I am trying to make new friends.

My parents say we are safe here. I hope one day, we can go back to Syria. But for now, this is our home. I want to learn and play, like before. I want to be happy again.
